A fresh chapter for clinical knowledge access
I am delighted to introduce this new monthly newsletter, which will keep Victorian clinicians informed about developments across the CHC, highlight available resources and services, and share practical tips to help you make the most of this important statewide service.
This year is a particularly significant one for the CHC. In 2026, we celebrate 25 years of supporting Victorian healthcare professionals with access to trusted clinical knowledge and evidence. Since its establishment in 2001, the CHC has played a vital role in promoting equitable access to high-quality information for clinicians working across metropolitan, regional, and rural Victoria. Throughout that time, healthcare has changed considerably, and so too has the CHC.
What has remained constant is our commitment to ensuring Victorian clinicians have access to the evidence, information, and decision support they need to provide safe, effective, and contemporary patient care. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, the CHC must remain dynamic and responsive to the changing needs of our workforce.
From 1 July 2026, Victorian clinicians gained access to a modernised suite of clinical resources and services designed to support evidence-based practice at the point of care. New additions include DynaMed and Isabel, CINAHL Ultimate, Psychiatry Online (including DSM-5-TR), Micromedex NeoFax and Paediatrics, among others. These resources complement an already extensive collection of trusted clinical content available through the CHC.
We’ve also introduced several improvements designed to make access to information easier and more intuitive. OpenAthens now provides streamlined, secure remote access to CHC resources, helping clinicians connect with evidence wherever they work. The introduction of EBSCO Discovery Service enables searching across multiple CHC resources through a single interface, making it faster to discover relevant evidence and clinical information.
The CHC website has also been refreshed with improved navigation, enhanced search options, and a more modern design, making it easier for clinicians to discover and access trusted clinical information.
Importantly, these changes are supported by a comprehensive new training and support program. Monthly webinars, on-demand recordings, customised training opportunities, a Clinical Champions Program, and the new CHC Support website will help clinicians build confidence and maximise the value of the resources available to them.
At Safer Care Victoria, we recognise that access to trusted information is fundamental to delivering safe, high-quality care. By providing equitable access to clinical resources across Victoria's public health system, the CHC helps ensure that clinicians, regardless of their profession, location or health service, can access the knowledge they need to support better patient outcomes.
As we celebrate 25 years of the CHC, we also look ahead to its future. We remain committed to working with clinicians and health services across Victoria to ensure the CHC continues to evolve, innovate and respond to emerging needs.
Thank you for the work you do every day to care for Victorian patients and communities. We hope you find this newsletter useful, informative, and relevant, and we look forward to sharing future editions with you.
