Isabel

Isabel is a clinical decision support tool that helps clinicians construct and broaden differential diagnoses at the point of care. Using information typically gathered during a patient workup—such as age, gender, and presenting signs and symptoms—the web-based tool generates a structured list of possible diagnoses, ranked by likelihood. It draws on more than 6,000 disease presentations and highlights critical “Don’t Miss” diagnoses that may carry significant risk if overlooked.

Designed to complement clinical judgement, Isabel supports more comprehensive diagnostic reasoning, particularly in complex or uncertain cases. By prompting consideration of a wider range of conditions, it can contribute to more appropriate investigations, referrals, and admissions, as well as reduced length of stay and improved patient outcomes.

Isabel has undergone extensive peer-reviewed validation, demonstrating its accuracy and clinical value. It also supports education and reflective practice across multidisciplinary teams.

Seamless Integration with DynaMed

Isabel is also fully integrated with DynaMed, with results linking directly to relevant DynaMed topics. Queensland clinicians can get powerful clinical decision support by combining the leading diagnosis technology of Isabel with the latest evidence-based clinical information from DynaMed. Isabel and DynaMed work together to give clinicians the evidence-based information they need to provide the best care to their patients. Clinicians can easily start their diagnosis journey from either platform by accessing Isabel differential diagnosis from the DynaMed homepage (“DDx” in the main menu) or linking directly to DynaMed topics from Isabel's list of potential diagnoses.
