Closing the gap between research and clinical practice

The CHC offers world-class clinical information resources, including the DynaMed clinical decision support tool from EBSCO, providing concise, current, and actionable clinical information at the point of care.

DynaMed now publishes summaries of select articles from the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in real time, directly within the DynaMed platform. This is the only clinical decision support solution with licensed rights to same-day access to NEJM articles.

Summaries of original NEJM research articles will be live on the DynaMed website homepage as well as within the appropriate clinical topics on the same day that the NEJM publishing embargo is lifted.

Clinicians are under immense pressure to keep up with the pace of new medical knowledge and deliver the fastest possible care based on the highest quality evidence. With mere moments to seek answers, clinicians require immediate access to the latest research. Same-day availability to new evidence, paired with concise, actionable clinical guidance with clearly cited, expert-curated analysis, ensures clinicians can integrate the latest, peer-reviewed evidence into patient care decisions without delay.

Roy Ziegelstein, M.D., MACP, Editor-in-Chief of DynaMed, highlighted the critical value of giving clinicians real-time access to research and new findings that directly impact patience care.

“Clinicians shouldn’t have to wait days or weeks for the latest evidence. That’s why our goal continues to be closing the gap between evidence and practice. With same-day access to summaries of NEJM articles, clinicians using DynaMed will receive the latest, most trusted research, delivered with the clarity and rigor they rely on” Dr. Ziegelstein said.

Through its exclusive relationship with NEJM, DynaMed offers the most current, trusted, and actionable clinical decision support resource available.

What is DynaMed?

DynaMed is a physician-curated clinical reference tool that synthesises the latest evidence into clinically-organised evidence summaries for more than 3,400 topics. Developed by a team of expert clinicians and updated daily, it provides guidance across a wide range of specialties, from general medicine to critical care. Its hallmark is a commitment to evidence-based methodology, ensuring that recommendations are grounded in the best available research rather than expert opinion alone.

Designed for the clinical front line

For Victorian clinicians, DynaMed offers several key advantages:

  • Speed and clarity: Information is presented in a bulleted, digestible format, allowing clinicians to find answers in seconds—not minutes.
  • Rigorous evidence grading: Each recommendation is backed by transparent grading of evidence, using the gold standard GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) system, helping clinicians understand the strength and reliability of the guidance at a glance.
  • Mobile accessibility: With offline access and a user-friendly app, DynaMed supports decision-making whether you're on ward rounds, in the ED, or consulting remotely.

Diverse use cases

  • Emergency departments: Rapid access to diagnostic criteria and treatment protocols
  • Inpatient wards: Review of management plans and guideline updates
  • Allied health and nursing: Evidence-based care pathways and patient education tools
  • Rural and remote: Offline app access ensures continuity of information during inconsistent internet access

Trusted by clinicians worldwide

DynaMed has earned high praise from healthcare professionals globally. In fact, it consistently ranks as a top performer in the Clinical Decision Support: Point-of-Care Disease Reference category by KLAS Research, an independent organisation that gathers feedback from thousands of healthcare providers. This recognition reflects DynaMed’s usability, reliability, and clinical relevance.

Local content that makes a difference

Victoria’s healthcare system is unique in the world, in its blend of metropolitan, rural and urban settings, and diverse patient populations. Incorporating local Australian content, DynaMed supports clinicians through links recommendations from respected national organisations such as the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne’s guidelines, the Australian Resuscitation Council, National Asthma Council Australia, Lung Foundation Australia and Choosing Wisely Australia.

Tools like DynaMed helps bridge knowledge gaps, standardise care, and support junior and senior clinicians alike in making informed decisions. Whether you're managing a complex case in a tertiary hospital or providing care in a rural setting, it offers a consistent, evidence-based foundation.

Supports clinical governance and CPD

DynaMed can assist with clinical governance initiatives by promoting consistent, evidence-based care. It also supports Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by tracking time spent on clinical topics and allowing users to export activity logs for documentation.
